An Annual Tradition in BC’s Mining Community
It’s that time of year again…The annual Mining for Miracles (M4M) Pie Throw fundraiser event is underway and, as in previous years, VP Steve Yee is participating as a “Pie-ee”, representing CWA in the Engineering Battle Royale Pie competition to raise funds in support of the BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH).
The Precision Health Care Initiative (PHI)
In 2023, M4M launched their three-year commitment to raise $3.58 million to support BC Children’s Hospital’s Precision Health Initiative, which represents state-of-the-art medical research. It will improve BC Children’s Hospital’s ability to provide answers for children with previously undiagnosed conditions, offering new information and hope to children and families who have often been on a long and difficult diagnostic odyssey. The Pie Throw Competition
Pie Throw is the B.C. mining industry’s signature event in support of BCCH. Each year, leaders from across the industry are paired in a friendly fundraising competition. Participants compete to raise the most money and the winners get to throw a cream pie in the face of their competitors. This year, the Pie Throw goal is to raise $1,300,000 to support the creation of the Precision Health Initiative.
Eight of the thirty-two participants in this year’s Pie Throw event have been matched up into two teams (Team Silver Pie and Team Gold Pie) in the Engineering Battle Royale Pie competition, to see which team can raise the most funds for the BC Children’s Hospital and who will receive a pie in the face.
In the competition to date, CWA has individually raised over $10,000, the eight engineering competitors have collectively raised over $60,000, and the grand-total of funds raised by all thirty-two competitors is now over $1,000,000 – over three-quarters of the way to the ultimate goal of raising $1.3 million!
Who Will Take a Pie in the Face?
The fundraising competition will end on Thursday, May 25th at 5:00 p.m. (PDT), at which time the winning teams (who raised the most money) will be determined. Videos of the Pie Throw will be shared on social media channels and on the Mining for Miracles website over three excitement-building days, from June 14th to June 16th.
